1. Project Background
Pulse Athletic Studio is a boutique fitness studio offering high-intensity interval training, yoga, and spin classes. Located in a converted industrial warehouse space, the brand identity centers on energy, movement, and measurable results. The sign needed to capture the kinetic energy of the workouts inside — signaling to passersby that this is a place of activity and transformation.
2. Design Concept
The design is built around the concept of a “heartbeat” — a pulsing electrocardiogram (ECG) waveform rendered in bright magenta LED neon that runs the full width of the sign panel. The studio name “PULSE” appears in bold sans-serif dimensional letters with a metallic silver finish, while “ATHLETIC STUDIO” is set in smaller complementary channel letters below. The ECG line is animated with a slow-moving chase pattern that simulates a heartbeat — 72 pulses per minute, matching a resting athletic heart rate.

3. Kinetic Energy Through Design
The ECG waveform is not just decorative — the pattern was derived from an actual ECG recording of the studio’s co-founder during a maximal effort sprint on a rowing machine. This authentic bio-data gives the design a genuine connection to the studio’s athletic mission. The waveform was digitized and scaled to fit a 66-inch-wide neon path, preserving the unique peaks and valleys of the original recording.
4. Industrial Environment Integration
The warehouse space features exposed brick, steel beams, and polished concrete floors. The sign’s brushed stainless steel letters echo the industrial material palette while the magenta neon provides a bold color contrast against the warm brick tones. The sign is mounted on a custom steel frame that extends 8 inches from the brick wall, creating a dramatic shadow that shifts throughout the day as sunlight moves across the facade.
5. Branding & Marketing Impact
The heartbeat waveform has become Pulse Athletic Studio’s primary brand icon — featured on workout apparel, water bottles, class schedules, and the studio’s mobile app icon. The sign’s 72 BPM pulse rate was intentionally chosen as a subtle psychological cue: studies show that rhythmic visual patterns at this frequency can subconsciously influence passersby’s heart rate and energy perception. The studio reports that the sign is frequently mentioned in new member intake forms as a reason they initially noticed the studio.
