Bloom and Petal is a boutique floral design studio in Charleston French Quarter. The owner whose work has been featured in Martha Stewart Weddings wanted her storefront to whisper rather than shout. The building is a restored 1850s townhouse with original heart pine floors.
Design Concept and Branding
Hand-painted on sage green painted wood in romantic gold script with botanical accents. A hand-painted peony bloom and trailing ivy accents each end. The gold is a custom mix of pearl powder and clear medium — intentionally softer and more romantic than traditional gold leaf.
Material Selection and Fabrication
Cedar panel for natural rot resistance in Charleston humid climate. Three coats of exterior-grade paint. Lettering applied using hand-cut stencils filled with pearl-and-medium mixture, sealed with matte urethane. A small vintage-style hanging sign at the entrance from powder-coated steel.
Installation Process
Charleston Board of Architectural Review required concept drawings, paint color samples matched to the approved historic palette, and dimensional specifications. Approval took three weeks. The hanging sign bracket was custom-forged to match the building 1850s ironwork.
