Sugar Rush Candy Co. on Nashville’s Broadway is surrounded by live music venues and tourist attractions. In a district known for neon honky-tonks and bright lights, the candy shop needed signage that would stand out among the competition while appealing to families and children.
Project Background
Nashville’s Broadway entertainment district sees millions of visitors annually, and the candy shop is positioned to capture a share of that foot traffic. The owners wanted a sign that would read as fun and whimsical from a distance — something that would make children tug their parents’ sleeves and say “look!”
Design Concept & Branding
The main sign is a custom-painted wooden board in candy pink with white dimensional lettering, framed with LED neon accent tubing. But the real showstopper is the projecting lollipop sign — a 30-by-72-inch candy-colored landmark that extends from the facade above the entrance. The lollipop is painted in swirling pastels with LED strip illumination that rotates through candy colors.
The window graphics use a circus-inspired design with candy stripes and confetti patterns, creating a sense of celebration that matches the Broadway energy.
Material Selection & Fabrication
The lollipop sign is fabricated from marine-grade plywood with a smooth gel-coat finish, painted in automotive-grade paint for color longevity. The LED neon accent uses a programmable controller that can cycle through different color schemes for holidays and special events. The window graphics are high-adhesion vinyl with a protective laminate rated for five years of UV exposure.
Installation Process
The projecting lollipop sign required a custom steel bracket system welded to the building’s structural frame to handle wind loads and vibration. Installation took two days, with the lollipop being hoisted into position by crane during early morning hours to minimize street disruption.
Results & Impact
The lollipop sign has become one of the most photographed storefront elements on Broadway, frequently appearing in tourist photos and social media posts. The owner reported a measurable increase in foot traffic from families with children, who are drawn to the colorful design. The sign has been featured in several Nashville tourism blog posts as a must-see storefront.
